Vans Shoes

The first Vans Shoes store was opened in 1966 in Anaheim, California. It was founded by Mr Paul Van Doren and three of his business partners. Vans would manufacture their shoes and sell them directly to the public. The idea behind the first Vans Shoes, the Authentic, was to design a pair of shoes that would be durable and outlast anything else in the market.

The moulds for the Vans waffle soles were much thicker than all other shoes on the market with a much better, stronger canvas; using nylon thread instead of cotton. The Vans Shoes became hugely popular with skaters, so they designed the Old Skool. These were constructed with leather in the toe to further help prevent wear and tear. Then came the Skate High, with the padded sides and backing to help protect skaters’ ankles when their board took flight and the skater didn't!

With its classic skate styling, this timeless brand has always brought the perfect touch of cool to any outfit. At West Brothers, we carry all the classics, from the Old Skool to the Authentic, as well as slip-on and leather varieties. Always comfortable and instantly identifiable, these classic shoes can be worn every day and you know you'll always look good. Shoppers in Australia can buy their new pair of kicks at any time of the day or night, through our West Brothers online store. How to clean Vans shoes

Vans were made to weather the wear and tear of skateparks, but they still require a little care from time to time. While we don't recommend throwing your Vans into the washing machine (this will likely ruin them and can also potentially damage your washing machine), cleaning them is super easy.

Cleaning the exterior

To get canvas Vans such as the Old Skool Tapered Eco Theory looking brand new, mix together some soap with warm water. With a toothbrush, gently scrub at the dirty spots on your Vans until the stains are removed. You can also use this mixture on the rubber part of your Vans.

For suede Vans, you can use equal parts water and white vinegar. Gently dab at the stained spots with a cloth until they lift. You can use the warm soapy water solution and a toothbrush to clean the rubber edges, as explained above. This also works for canvas Vans with suede accents, such as the Vans Comfycush Old Skool and Vans S8 Low.

Leave your vans in a shaded, undercover area to dry to prevent colours from fading.

Cleaning the interior

To clean the interior of your Vans, first remove the insole. Most Vans shoes have removable insoles, making them easy to clean. Simply pop them out and brush away any dirt or debris that has accumulated.

You can also wash the insoles in a sink with some mild soap and water; just be sure to let them dry completely before wearing them. Otherwise, your feet will feel extremely uncomfortable, like you've just stepped in a puddle! Wearing shoes with wet insoles also can increase the chance of mould growth.

Where can I buy Vans shoes?

You can buy Vans skate shoes online from a large number of retailers or find them in many brick-and-mortar stores, such as sporting goods stores, department stores, and shoe stores.

However, West Brothers is the only place you need to look to get your Vans fix. We stock all the classic, best-selling styles. Whether you're after black Vans shoes, white Vans, high-top Vans or classic Old Skool vans, we've got you covered.

How much are Vans shoes in Australia?

The price of Vans shoes in Australia varies depending on the style and where you buy them. At West Brothers, we've got a wide range of Vans available at varying price points, so you can shop for Vans with your set budget!

Why are Vans so popular now?

Vans shoes have been a staple shoe in many skaters' and fashion enthusiasts' wardrobes since they were first introduced in 1966. While they’ve always been fashionable, the shoes have seen a recent resurgence in popularity over the last decade or so.

This is likely due to the fact that they are comfortable, stylish, and versatile; you can wear them with almost any outfit. Additionally, Vans are affordable compared to other designer brands, making them a popular shoe option across all ages.

While they're primarily skater shoes, you don't need to know how to rip it, in order to rock them. Vans, such as the Vans Authentic, go with just about anything. Their simple nature and design allow them to be dressed up or down for any occasion – although we wouldn't recommend wearing them to a formal event.

What do Van shoes stand for?

Vans actually started out as the Van Doren Rubber Company. The Van Doren Rubber Company was the precursor to the iconic shoe company we now know and love as Vans.

Canvas deck shoes with gripping rubber soles were Van Doren Rubber's speciality. When folks would say, "Let's head over to Van's and get shoes," founder Paul Van Doren ran with it. Fast forward to today and Vans is an iconic household name.

Why do skaters wear Vans?

Vans are a type of shoe specifically designed for skaters, by skaters. The shoes are equipped with a rubber sole that helps skaters grip their boards better. They're also comfortable and stylish, which is why many choose to wear them both on and off their boards.

But that doesn't mean non-skaters can't wear Vans shoes. In fact, Vans are so popular now that you don't need to be a skater to rock them. They go with just about any outfit and can easily be dressed up or down, making them perfect for everyday wear. We love the Vans Sport, a classic wardrobe staple that can be worn in the skate park and anywhere else.

Can you wear Vans shoes without socks?

For short periods of time, wearing Vans shoes without socks is perfectly fine and actually quite comfortable! If you're popping out to quickly run errands or hanging out at home, going socks-free is perfectly fine. But if you're going to be on your feet all day, we suggest wearing socks with your Vans. Not only will this prevent blisters, but it will also keep your shoes feeling secure and cool, preventing your feet from working up a sweat.

What is the difference between Vans and skate Vans shoes?

The main difference between regular Vans shoes and skate Vans shoes is the sole. Skate Vans have a thicker, more durable sole that's been designed to withstand the wear and tear of skating. Additionally, the soles of skate shoes are usually flat, while regular Vans typically have a slight incline. Skate Vans shoes take the designs of classic Vans, and simply add extra durability – perfect for skaters. Think of your Old Skool, Sk8-Hi and Sk8-Low all on steroids.
